art amiss 24 hour film festival

Ready. Set. Shoot....

Prepare for the ultimate test of your creative abilities, not to mention your plain old endurance and will: The first annual Art Amiss 24 Hour Film Festival will take place in conjunction with Art Amiss VIII. An unlimited number of teams will race to complete a short film in the course of a single day. The likely-to-be uneven results will be screened at Art Amiss VIII.

Never shot a film? No worries. This will be your crash course--a baptism by fire that you'll remember for the rest of your life. Gather your friends together, get off the couch, and do something badass with your weekend. One of you might discover a talent that lay buried under a pile of potato chip crumbs, drowned out by the persistent drone of the television, fallow but fertile. I'm actually shivering with anticipation....

On Saturday, May 3rd, at 10:00 am, we'll send an email to the registered teams with the super-secret condition(s). Teams then have 24 hours to write, cast, shoot, edit, and upload their film to the Art Amiss vimeo account. All submissions must be in by 10 am the following day. No exceptions. Get ready to pull an all-nighter. Drink some o' that suspiciously-pigmented energy fluid, greet the sun's early dawn, and beat the church crowd to the eatin' place for a well-deserved wrap party.

Sunday afternoon, all films will be viewable on the Art Amiss channel. The best 10 films out of the bunch, as decided by the always-discriminating board members of Art Amiss, will be screened at the Art Amiss VII event on May 8. The grand prize winner will be awarded a trophy, specially designed by a Fayetteville artist. After that, the winners get to give a blustery acceptance speech and say whatever the hell they want, because we don't have no damn orchestra.

All qualifying entries will be added to the Art Amiss VIII "24 Hour Film Festival" DVD. That shit will be floating around Arkansas for years. At the very least, it'll be doubling as a coaster or dangling from the rearview mirror in some quaint dude's Civic.

5 Simple Rules

ONE. The Art Amiss VIII- 24 Hour Film Festival is open to any current resident of the state of Arkansas. You can work as a team (5 members MAX) or individually.

TWO. You may use any film/video format to compete in the event, from expensive-ass HD cameras to your cell phone. If you have a kinetiscope and can get the film processed to digital in time, go on with your bad self, you beautiful Edisonian bastard. (Also, there's these little suckers....)

THREE. You must own the music or image copyright for anything contained in your film. We suggest you bang out your own soundtrack. All copyrights are the team's responsibility and may need to be obtained prior to the event. Art Amiss takes no responsibility for any breaches of copyright.

FOUR. We're not likely to censor anything you do or say, but we will definitely boot you out of the competition if you kill a puppy or threaten somebody or something like that. We reserve the right to shield our audience from dead puppies and assholes.

FIVE. While you retain sole ownership of your film, Art Amiss reserves the right to broadcast, market, and stream your film for promotional and fundraising purposes. We a nonprofit, y'all. Respect.

Good luck!
